-
Accurate shade matching for aesthetic restorations.
-
High polishability and smooth surface finish (important for both aesthetic and hygienic aspects).
-
High wear resistance and fracture resistance, suited for posterior load-bearing areas.
-
Low polymerization shrinkage (thanks to high filler loading) reducing stress and marginal leakage risk.
-
Good radiopacity (filled with barium glass particles) for X-ray visibility.
-
Easy handling: optimal viscosity, non-stickiness to instruments, good for sculpting in various cavity types.
⚙️ Technical Specifications
Here are some of the key specs from the manufacturer’s brochure:
-
Filler loading: ~ 86 wt% (~70 vol %) in some versions.
-
Compressive strength: ~ 449 MPa for CLEARFIL AP-X (in one test).
-
Flexural strength: ~ 204 MPa in that same test.
-
Toothbrush abrasion: around 0.33 mm³ in one test (indicating good wear resistance).
-
Shrinkage: one listing reports polymerisation shrinkage of ~1.9%.
-
Indications:
-
Class I, II, V restorations of posterior teeth.
-
Class III, IV, V restorations of anterior teeth.
-
Cervical cavities or defects involving root surfaces (wedge-shaped defects) in some cases.
-
-
Shade range: available in many VITA® shades: A2, A3, A3.5, A4, B2, B3, B4, C2–C4, XL (transparent) etc.
📝 Clinical Notes / Usage Tips
-
Because of its high filler content and low shrinkage, it is well suited for posterior restorations where wear and strength are key.
-
The aesthetic polishability and shade matching make it also appropriate for anterior restorations, especially when you want a durable composite that also looks good.
-
Handling is optimized (non-sticky, good sculptability) so you should find it comfortable for both build-up and contouring.
-
Even though it is universal, always ensure proper isolation, bonding protocol, incremental placement especially in deeper cavities to ensure optimal polymerization and behaviour.
-
Choose the appropriate shade and translucency depending on location (anterior vs posterior) and cavity depth; the XL transparent shade can be useful for layering or as a base.
